Focused on the Goal — Forgetting Those Things Which are behind. I Press…
Should old acquaintances be forgotten, And never brought to mind? Should old acquaintances be forgotten, And days of long ago!
“I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running and I’m not turning back. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it. Stick with me, friends. Keep track of those you see running this same course, headed for this same goal. There are many out there taking other paths, choosing other goals, and trying to get you to go along with them. I’ve warned you of them many times; sadly, I’m having to do it again. All they want is easy street. They hate Christ’s Cross. But easy street is a dead-end street. Those who live there make their bellies their gods; belches are their praise; all they can think of is their appetites. But there’s far more to life for us. We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Savior, the Master, Jesus Christ, who will transform our earthy bodies into glorious bodies like his own. He’ll make us beautiful and whole with the same powerful skill by which he is putting everything as it should be, under and around him.” [Philippians 3:13-21 – The Message Bible]
Happy New Year! We are in 2012. The days are indeed getting shorter. Do you have your eyes on the goal? Are you focused? Do you want everything that God has for you? Have you made up your mind and do you purpose to be diligent to the resolutions that you will make this year. The Message Bible takes the fogginess from out of our eyes by making it clear on being prepared for this New Year. The apostle Paul stated, “I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me.” Would you say that you are well on your way also? You too must stay in the race, knowing that Jesus who has run the race before has plotted out the way for your individual race. If you look to Him, you cannot fail. Examine yourself (Gal. 6:4) on a daily basis, because you are a living epistle that will certainly be read of men – the only Christ some may ever see. The Apostle Paul said that he would forget those things which had passed and look towards the future – YOU must go and do likewise.
Yes there were some things that we expected to see manifested in 2011, that were not. Yet we press.
We started 2011 with visions of what we were going to do and what we expected to see manifested in our lives, but somehow along the way, others disappointed us by not being where we expected them to be and/or when we expected them to be there. Let’s not take it personal! God and God alone deserves the glory for where He is taking us and when we get there no one will be able to say, “It was me who got him/her there.” Let’s forget past failures as we lay aside the weights and sins that so easily beset us and run with patience the race that is set before us. The blood of Jesus still avails to cover our sins (I John 1:7). God only sees us through the blood of Jesus and finds us perfect and complete in His sight (Col. 2:10). We are seated in heavenly places with Him (Eph. 2:6). Knowing mankind, sometimes it’s hard to comprehend the way God see us, but that is a fact.
Along the way, death came to our homes, yet we persevered knowing that for those who God allowed to come home to be with Him are now absent from the body but present with Him. So once again we continue along life’s journey as we press. Further along the road in this race called “life”, some of our family relationships became somewhat unraveled but God’s word said that we should, “Give all our worries and cares to Him, for He cares about us.” 1 Peter.5:7 Continue to press.
You are still here in 2012 by divine appointment and while you are waiting for the return of our Lord and Savior, you still have a job to do presently. You are unique, a Designer Original with a specific assignment to do for the Kingdom of God. Hurts came, but let’s purpose in our hearts to forget past hurts and snubs from friends. This is not the time, nor season to dwell on hurts — perceived or real. Let’s not allow anything or anyone to sap our energy – or even take away our strength or joy. Certainly do your best to amend bad situations, but do not allow them to slow you down, you still have a race to run. Stop wasting your energy on things that only God can fix and instead concentrate on God – The One who holds all power of heaven and earth and upholds them by the word of His power (Mt. 28:19; Heb. 1:3). Instead press! Therefore walk in a godly manner before the people of the world (Col. 4;5; and Jas. 3:13). Your time here on earth is far shorter than eternity. With that in mind, know for a fact that your God given days here on earth are not to be wasted. It is imperative that you redeem the time (Col. 4:5) and you do so by pressing.
Forget past blessings and achievements – strive to do it up BIG and better in 2012. God will make provision for His vision. Don’t try to live on yesterday’s manna (Ex. 16:20) – because God is no longer in yesterday. GOD IS – not was, not will be – HE JUST IS. You need fresh oil from the throne of God today (Ps. 92:10).
Continue to look for the coming of Jesus. Make a decision within yourself to be found blameless in Christ in preparation for His return.
I encourage you today to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Prayer: Father, in the Matchless Name of Your Precious Son Jesus, I thank You for bringing me safely into 2012. I am pressing towards the mark of Your high calling upon my life and as I stay my course – all that you have ordained for me will come into being, amen.
